  1. All a person has to do is go over and visit the onlybucs.net forum to read these similar, delusional comments. It is one thing to be optimistic, and another thing to be completely retarded. There seems to be martin clones over on that message board these days. Now, I do like what Neal Huntington is doing with the organization. But, when I read comments that Steve Pearce is the future - it just borders on insane. There are some nice prospects in the system right now. The difference for these fans is - they obviously do not know what the difference between a Steve Pearce versus Andrew McCutcheon. Maybe it is the 17 straight years of losing that has caused many Pirate fans to have no idea in judging talent? Maybe it is the fact, most of the old school, diehard Pirate fans have stopped following the team - only to be replaced by the new generation of Pirate fans (ala the Kennywood crowd). The same fans that come to the ballpark today wondering when the fireworks will begin? And when the next bobblehead giveaway is? One thing is for sure, todays Pirate (or any sports team today) fan is not very 'informed' or 'sports educated'.

  2. Sorry, but I just had to relay a few more delusional thoughts from our fellow Pirate fans on the onlybucs.net message board.

bmcferren writes, "I'm rooting for Delmon Young at 2b. If Perry hill can work some magic, we could have a very talented hitter up the middle. Jeff Kent, Ryan Sandburg, Chase Utley, Ron Gant, mold."

luey18 writes, "Did I mention that Charlie Morton also gives me a feeling of Orel Hershiser?"

IABucFan writes (regarding Ross Ohlendorf), "Is it just me, or does his motion look very similar to Mark Prior's? Since I don't get to see many Pirates' games on T.V., I mostly have to rely on highlights, but everytime I watch a highlight of him pitching, he really reminds me of Mark Prior."

Now, I could go on and on pasting quote after quote from these 'fans'. But, I think this at least gives a fair impression of just what the average Pirate fan thinks. It is no wonder the Pirates have stunk this bad for the last 17 straight years. When the fans think like the quotes above, is there really any reason or incentive (if you are Bob Nutting) to try and compete? This ownership and management group could sell anything to these gullible, yet loveable, Pirates fans. It is almost endearing to a point. God bless them...

  3. Yikes! I understand wanting the team to do well...deluding yourself into it happening is much different.
